PROGRAMS
Artist-centered every time.
Fresh Arts offers a range of programs designed to support artists at every stage of their careers. From professional development to project support and public-facing opportunities, our programs provide the tools, skills, resources, and platforms artists need to grow. Our programs are designed to meet artists where they are and help move their work forward. Check out our main flagship programs below!
Artist INC Houston
Artist INC is an 8-week in-person course held annually each Fall by artists for artists. It is designed to help creatives of all disciplines and career stages gain the tools to navigate the business side of their practice through a mixture of mentorship, lectures, hands-on activities, collaborative learning, and a supportive peer network. Around 25 applicants are accepted each year, with applications typically opening around May.
Space Taking Artist Residency
The Space Taking Artist Residency (STAR) is an annual program that gives Houston-based artists the space and time to try out new ideas and engage with new audiences. Alongside funding and project support, selected artists receive a dedicated gallery space and several weeks to take it over, transform it, and activate it with public experiences that relate to their proposed theme(s) and concept(s). STAR is open to emerging and mid-career artists of all disciplines, including visual, performing, literary, and beyond.
Make Music Day Houston
Make Music Day Houston, now powered by Fresh Arts, is part of the global Make Music Day movement celebrated on JUNE 21 annually. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. Make Music Day encourages spaces of all kinds (from patios, parks, and sidewalks to storefronts and community spaces) to book free public performances with music-makers of all genres, ages, and skill levels.
Fiscal Sponsorship
Fiscal Sponsorship is a year-round program that lets eligible artist-led projects raise funds like a nonprofit without actually needing one. It provides access to resources and opportunities typically reserved for 501(c)(3) organizations.
