NEWS: Fresh Arts Brings a Fresh Approach

As of May 2025, Fresh Arts is proud to serve as the new lead organizer of Make Music Day Houston. Previously managed by the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs (MOCA), the program continues to be directed by Gracie Chavez, former Music Officer under MOCA and newly appointed Programs Director at Fresh Arts.

Chavez began leading Make Music Day in Houston in 2022 and now brings her strong history of artist advocacy and community engagement to Fresh Arts. Under her direction, the initiative will continue to serve hundreds of local music-makers of all ages and skill levels.

With Fresh Arts at the helm, the event is being reimagined with a renewed focus on equity, access, and meaningful support for local performers, especially at a time when arts funding and opportunities in the city are increasingly limited.

For over 20 years, Fresh Arts has provided Houston artists of all disciplines with the opportunities, resources, and tools needed to advance their professional and personal success and keep creating work that enriches lives. Our programs highlight and empower traditionally underrepresented artists, connect communities, make the arts more accessible for all, and foster a thriving arts ecosystem in Houston. We envision Houston as a place where artists and their communities uplift each other and thrive together.
