August 2023 STAResident: Keeley Dunnam
Fresh Arts is proud to highlight Keeley Dunnam and her project Telephone 2.0 as our August 2023 STAResident. Keeley’s project, Telephone 2.0, was all about bridging the gap between performance and visual art and bringing multiple perspectives together in a single space. In a series of interactive workshops led by Keeley, participants used a dance piece as the inspiration for their own pieces of artwork, created in their preferred mediums. The result was a beautiful blending of disciplines and indivudual expressions of emotion.

July 2023 STAResident: Dr. Lindsay Gary
Fresh Arts is proud to highlight Dr. Lindsay Gary, founder of Dance Afrikana as our July 2023 STAResident. Her project, titled Dancing Home (to) Houston, featured three jam-packed weeks of African Diasporic dance workshops and performances for kids, elders and everyone in between, immersive and interactive exhibitions, live podcast recordings, oral history collections, and more.

June 2023 STAResident: Ruby Rivera
Fresh Arts is proud to highlight Ruby Rivera and her organization Texas Salsa Congress (TSC) as our June 2023 STAResident. Her project, titled Summer of Salsa y Mas, featured three fun-filled weeks of salsa workshops and performances, multi-disciplinary artist collaborations, and interactive paint & dance activities for the community.

MECA Opens Its Doors For All 2023 STAR Events
The STAR program’s original home, Winter Street Studios, suffered devastating damages following a tragic fire-bombing that occurred on December 20, 2022. Following this misfortune, The Houston Center for Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA) graciously opened their doors for Fresh Arts to host all 2023 STAR events.

Recovery Resources for Winter Street Artists
On Tuesday, December 20, 2022 a devastating fire took place at Winter Street Studios, which destroyed several studios, damaged an entire section of the building, and filled every hallway and studio with soot and smoke.

CREATIVE PLACEMAKING INITIATIVE: Magnolia Park Mural Project 2022
With the support of Port Houston, Fresh Arts piloted a creative placemaking initiative that aims to provide public art education and support for emerging muralists and expand access to public art opportunities for Houston’s oldest neighborhoods through a community-centered mural project.
