Kuumba: A Celebration of Afro-Dance is a dance festival that celebrates Kwanzaa through one of its seven principles called Kuumba. Kuumba is Kiswahili for creativity and its purpose is to leave the community “more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.” It invites dance artists and choreographers from Houston and beyond to share through performances, workshops, and more.
In collaboration with MECA, Kuumba for Elders celebrates the creativity of Houston’s Black Dance community through a summer dance workshop series for elders (ages 60 and above).
