Houston Cultural Districts Collaborate

The Houston Cultural Districts are roughly a year into our collaborative endeavor to identify how we can increase the visibility of arts and culture in Houston. We’ve been doing the work of community listening and shared decision-making and have learned a great deal.

We are hosting an upcoming in-person convening, facilitated by Maya Ford, where we will update the arts ecosystem on our proposed strategies and have an honest and generative discussion about sector collaboration.

On Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 10AM – 12:30PM at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum (3816 Caroline Street, Houston 77004) we’ll engage in a dynamic process to address what has stood in the way of sector collaboration previously, name what inspires us to preserve, strengthen, and sustain our city moving forward, and have an applied conversation about how this plan can model inclusive implementation.

Specifically, this convening will provide:
A recognition of past challenges with collaboration and inclusion in the sector;
An opportunity to co-create the values that will lead us to a more collaborative arts sector
A review of the interventions the Cultural Districts have identified, and a discussion of how they can be implemented in a way that prioritizes Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging and ensures all voices are heard and represented moving forward.

By the time we end our session, we will have an outline for what we value and how we’ll protect our vision. We want to see you there!
As always, thank you for your support and engagement in this vital work.
