About Fresh Arts

About us

Fresh Arts champions the artists who make Houston a more vibrant and creative place to live.

Fresh Arts programs help advance the careers of Houston artists and creatives by complementing their artistic practices with access to hyper-local resources and career development opportunities to serve artists of all disciplines and stages.

Our menu of programs includes an annual two-day artist summit, an eight-week training seminar called Artist INC Houston, a podcast series featuring artist interviews, virtual and in-person workshops on career-building topics, a fiscal sponsorship program, an Artist Residency, AND MORE! Mission

Fresh Arts empowers local artists through programs that build knowledge, amplify local resources, and connect communities.

OUR HISTORY

Fresh Arts was born from a 2012 merger of two prominent Houston arts service organizations: Spacetaker (est. 2003) and Fresh Arts Coalition (est. 2002). Spacetaker, founded by artist David A. Brown, identified a need for artists to build sustainable careers and Fresh Arts Coalition, founded by Marita Fairbanks, used collaborative marketing to promote unique arts programs. Today, powered by a small but passionate team of 4, Fresh Arts supports Greater Houston artists of all disciplines & stages by helping them cultivate community, attract new audiences, share resources, build skills, and create momentum for their projects.
